Christmas Village at the Residenz
In the Kaiserhof of the Residenz, the former city palace of the Wittelsbach rulers, a Christmas village with over 50 stalls, wooden huts and lots of lights runs from 16 November to 22 December 2026. Daily 11am–9pm, 22 Dec until 8pm; closed 22 Nov. Great for families – and one of the first markets of the season.

Between stalls, mulled wine stands and crowds, a suitcase only gets in the way. Drop it off at Bavarian Lockers: Marsstraße 13, 80335 Munich, about five minutes from the north exit of Central Station. Staffed storage instead of lockers, any size, from €4.00 per item per day (plus a €1.75 service fee per booking). Open daily 7:15am–9pm.

Medieval Christmas Market at Wittelsbacherplatz
Jugglers, fire, mead and old crafts: the "Adventsspektakel" has been held at Wittelsbacherplatz since 2005. In 2026 it runs from 20 November to 23 December, daily 11am–9pm (closed 22 Nov), with the opening ceremony on 20 Nov at 6pm. Just a few minutes from the Residenz and Odeonsplatz.
Christkindlmarkt at Sendlinger Tor
Small and charming in front of the medieval city gate built in 1285. A Christmas market was held here as early as 1886, right at the gate since 1996. 2026: 20 November – 22 December, daily 10:30am–9pm, closed 22 Nov. One stop from Central Station on U1/U2.
Pink Christmas at Stephansplatz
Munich's queer Christmas market in the Glockenbach quarter takes place for the 21st time in 2026: 20 November – 20 December, Mon–Fri 4–10pm, Sat/Sun 2–10pm. Colourful, open-minded, with a stage programme and pink mulled wine.
Christmas Market at the Chinese Tower
In the middle of the English Garden around the famous pagoda: open 19 November – 23 December 2026, but only Wednesday to Sunday (Wed–Fri 11:30am–8:30pm, Sat/Sun 11am–8:30pm) plus 21–23 Dec. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, so check before you go.
Schwabing Christmas Market
In 2026 the art market at Münchner Freiheit celebrates 50 years – founded in 1976 and still organised by the artists themselves. Glass, ceramics, jewellery, leather: one-of-a-kind pieces. 25 November – 24 December 2026, Mon–Fri 12–8:30pm, Sat/Sun 11am–8:30pm, food until 9pm, Christmas Eve 11am–2pm.
Haidhausen Christmas Market
The neighbourhood market at Weißenburger Platz with its fountain is calmer than the old town and popular with locals. According to the City of Munich, its 49th edition runs from 23 November to 24 December 2026. Opening hours 2026: to be announced.
